Little wall pot
Cluster Crafts / 2019 / 2 months / form, prototyping, ceramics, CNC machining / individual concept project
Little Wall Pot is an endearing wall feature that can hold plants or special objects. The initial inspiration was to create small ‘pockets’ for a wall, giving owners freedom to customise whilst utilising vertical space in style. This idea came from the issue of the rise in smaller living spaces which can limit personalisation.
Little Wall Pot has the potential to be in a variety of sizes and colours, fit for a spectrum of uses. Inherent material properties of fired stoneware and terracotta clay add integrity and permanence to its delicate, humble form, whilst allowing it to be robust for interior and exterior settings. It is a balance of machine-driven manufacturing methods and hand crafted attention and detail.
The design is a balance of machine-driven manufacturing methods and hand crafted attention and detail - 3D printing helped to define the size and form the organic shape, and define the technical features. It also helped to define the plaster mould design - each pot is slip casted from a CAD modelled, 3-part CNC machined mould, followed by the unconstrained process of firing, hand finishing and glazing, giving each one its own character and story.
